Mr. William Edward "Ed" Jarrett passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2015, peacefully and surrounded by his family. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 28 from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service to begin at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, 427 South Lee Street. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Born July 17, 1942, he was a son of the late John Wayne Jarrett and Annie Mae Bazemore Jarrett of Sylacauga, AL. Mr. Jarrett was drafted into the US Army and served in heavy armor, and later joined the US Air Force Reserves. He was a graduate of Jacksonville State College and was a draftsman by trade. He was employed by Red Stone Arsenal of Huntsville, AL and worked on the development of escape systems for astronauts aboard the Saturn 5 rocket. Upon leaving Redstone Arsenal, Mr. Jarrett and his wife, Judy, relocated to Americus, GA with their son. Mr. Jarrett worked for Metalux Lighting and later Cooper Lighting for over 30 years until his retirement. Mr. Jarrett enjoyed spending time with his wife at their mountain home in Blairsville, GA. He was active in Shiloh Baptist Church of Americus, and was a strong supporter of M.B. Council Lodge #13 in Americus. Mr. Jarrett believed his greatest accomplishment and purpose was to be a provider to his family. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Judy Jarrett, his son Edward D. Jarrett of Johns Creek, his daughter-in-law Lynne Sachs, and grandson Travis Turner and wife Brooke Turner of Smyrna. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his brother, Wayne Jarrett of Arlington, VA.
