MAUREEN W. MORRISON, age 92, of Magnolia Manor, 2001 S. Lee Street, Americus, Georgia, died on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. Visitation will be at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, September 23, at Central Baptist Church, 190 Upper River Road, in Americus. The funeral service will be held at the church, beginning at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Hugh DeLoach and Dr. Bryan Myers officiating. Members of the Silvertones and members of the Kathleen Gardner Sunday School Class are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. A native of Dale County, Alabama, she was born April 27, 1923, daughter of the late Henry R. and Lula Fralish Willoughby. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Morrison is predeceased by her husband, Perry Morrison, a previous husband, Chambless “Honey” Lee, and two sisters, Helen W. McInnis and Eunice W. Barefoot. Mrs. Morrison had been a member of Central Baptist Church of Americus since 1949, where she was very active in WMU and Sunday School. She kept in touch with her church friends, and sent many greeting cards for various occasions, or for encouragement. She was very proud of her “God-given mission” of collecting Bibles and other Christian literature for delivery all over the world to those who had none. Church members, friends, and family joined in her mission by collecting along with her, and delivering the literature to the large warehouse in Decatur, Alabama for distribution. She had been active in the Pilot Club, a club of friendship and service, since 1961. She was also very active with Sumter County Retired Educators since her retirement. She felt very blessed to have lived in Americus so many years, and to have such a large group of friends, including her students, co-workers, church members, and many others. At about the age of ten years, it was evident that she would have a life-long career in the field of cosmetology. She practiced on family, friends and school teachers until the age of 16, when she moved to Americus. She graduated from the Georgia College of Beauty Culture in 1941, and was employed by local salons until 1944, when she bought Modern Beauty Shop in Americus. In January 1960, she established the cosmetology school at South Georgia Trade and Vocational School (now South Georgia Technical College) in Americus, and taught there until her retirement in 1986. Mrs. Morrison loved gardening, both flowers and vegetables, and also loved cooking. She especially loved and cared for her family. Her parents, two sisters, and families of their marriages were dear to her. In addition, the family of her husband, Perry Morrison,, became especially dear. They cared for her as though she were their own until her death. Mrs. Morrison is survived by a close extended family: brother-in-law, Grady McInnis, of Montgomery, Alabama; two stepsons: Curt Morrison and wife Donna of Vidalia, Georgia, and Kent Morrison and wife Christine of Albany, Georgia; grandchildren: Brian Morrison and wife Melanie, Melissa Morrison, Michelle Morrison, Michael Morrison, Adam Morrison, and Trey Morrison and wife Allison; six great-grandchildren: Bradley, Blake, Seth, Lyla, Lillian, and Eliza; nieces Lureen Osborn of Columbus, Georgia, Dr. Ellen Gunter of Phenix City, Alabama, Myra and Rann Gordon of Talladega, Alabama, Sara and Tim Shuman of Pace, Florida; nephews: John and Dana McInnis of Blue Ridge, Georgia and Steve and Terri McInnis of Asheville, North Carolina, ten grand-nieces and nephews, and five great-grand nieces and nephews, and many special friends.
