Mr. T. E. “Gene” Palmer, age 80, passed away on Thursday evening, February 26, 2009, in St. Francis Hospital. Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, in the First Presbyterian Church of Americus with Rev. Allan Purtill and Rev. Brooks Partain officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Pinecrest Cemetery in Mitchell County. Born July 27, 1928, in Mitchell County, Mr. Palmer was a son of the late Tenneth Garrett Palmer and Henrietta Dora Smith Palmer. Mr. Palmer was a retired regional manager for Westinghouse Electrical Corporation. He was a member and former deacon and elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Americus. He was a Mason and Shriner, and a former member of the Elk’s Club. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Blanche F. Palmer of Americus; a daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Jamey Lingo of Detour, MD; a brother, William L. “Roy” Palmer and his wife Ruby of Sylvester; a sister-in-law, Mary Frances Palmer of Thomasville; five grandchildren, Erin Lingo of Marble Falls, TX, Meghan Lingo of Baltimroe, MD, Trevor Lingo of Detour, MD, Ivy Palmer Moretz and Lelan Moretz, both of Montezuma; a great granddaughter, Dana Berry of Marble Falls, TX; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jan P. Moretz on Feb. 9, 1997, and by a brother, Daniel V. Palmer.
