Rev. Don Wilson, age 76, passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2015, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany. Funeral services are planned for 11:00 AM on Friday, November 6, at Plains Baptist Church, with Rev. Hugh Harbort officiating. Burial will follow in Lebanon Cemetery. Deacons of Plains Baptist Church are asked to serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, November 5, at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., between the hours of 6:00 & 8:00 PM, and at other times at the family residence, 108 W. Church St. in Plains. Born March 27, 1939 in Athens, TN, he was the son of the late Hubert Wilson and Edith Womack Wilson. He served Plains Baptist Church as pastor for almost forty years, and was actively involved in the Georgia Baptist Convention and the Friendship Baptist Association. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Brother Don was preceded in death in 2013 by his beloved wife, Linda Knox Wilson. Survivors include his children: Donna Pottorff (Mark) of Atlanta, Mark Wilson (Angela) of Americus, Steve Wilson (Karen) of Buford, and Phil Wilson of Americus; eight grandchildren: Matt Wilson (Nichole) of Alma, Ty Wilson (Lindsey) of Pembroke, Brooke Wilson of Buford, Peyton Wilson of Buford, Tori Wilson of Buford, Jack Wilson of Buford, Alex Pottorff of Atlanta, and Grace Pottorff of Atlanta; one great grandchild, Tanner Wilson of Pembroke; one sister, Barbara Jean Poteet of Delano, TN; two sisters-in-law: Pam Maddux (Larry) of Cookville, TN, and Bettye Paisley (Bill) of Athens, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
