Mrs. Angeline Cunningham Stevens, 88, passed away at her residence early Wednesday morning, March 18. Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 21, in the Arlington United Methodist Church with Rev. Brooks Partain and Rev. Debbie Cone officiating. Interment will be in the Arlington city cemetery. Born January 3, 1921, in Arlington, Mrs. Stevens was a daughter of the late Louis Oree Cunningham and Rachel Catherine Cowart Cunningham. She enjoyed a career in New York in fashion designing during the 1940s, working for designer Charles James. For twenty-five years, she designed clothing and made the patterns for the Tog Shop in Americus. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 20, at the home of Mrs. Stevens, 509 South Lee Street. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Angeline and Kevin Sprott of Ellaville; a son, Hampton Stevens of St. Simons Island; a brother and sister-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Hugh C. Cunningham of Albany; grandchildren Marcie and Truxton Stevens, both of Athens, Rachel, Esther, Hampton, Donovan, and Truxton Sprott, all of Ellaville; a step-granddaughter, Frances Whitaker of Atlanta; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Truxton Herbert Stevens, Jr. in 1989, and by a son, Truxton H. Stevens, III on April 15, 1987.
