Mr. Luther Alvin Pilcher, Sr., age 62, of Americus, formerly of Douglas, died early Saturday morning, April 4, 2009. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, in Shiloh Baptist Church with interment to follow in the Howell Family Cemetery in Sumter County. Rev. Hugh Harbort will officiate. The family will receive friends at Hancock Funeral Home from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Monday, April 6. At other times, friends may call at the home of Steve and Vi Roach, 158 Shiloh Road. In lieu of flowers, family members suggest that memorial contributions be sent to the Americus-Sumter County Hospice, P. O. Box 1434, Americus, GA 31709. Born November 20, 1946, in Sumter County, Mr. Pilcher was a son of the late Pugh Howell Pilcher and Eva Carrie Parks Pilcher. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, M. B. Council Lodge #13, Free and Accepted Masons, and the Douglas Country Club. Mr. Pilcher was a mobile home salesman and an avid golfer. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Zonda and Dan Petty of St. Marys; a son and daughter-in-law, Al and Sandi Pilcher of Ocilla; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Evie Seth and Vi and Steve Roach, all of Americus; a brother and sister-in-law, Joel and Geneda Pilcher of Trenton; grandchildren Shaw Pilcher and Seth Pilcher, both of Ocilla, Ashley Petty of Waycross, and Daniel Petty of Ft. Meade, MD; a great grandson, Bryson King of Waycross; and many nieces and nephews. Hancock Funeral Home, 427 South Lee Street, Americus, GA, is in charge of arrangements.
