Mrs. Carolyn Smith Holloway of Athens, formerly of Americus, passed away late Tuesday evening, April 14, 2009, in Grandview Nursing Center in Athens. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, in the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home with entombment to follow in the Weston Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. E. J. “Woody” Clark will officiate. The family will receive friends at Hancock Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 17. Born December 9, 1922, in Weston, Mrs. Holloway was a daughter of the late Robert Kyle Smith and Aubrey Patterson Smith. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and was a former Sunday School teacher in the Junior department. She was a member of Chapter 63, Order of the Eastern Star. She worked for Dr. Gatewood Dudley, Cheek Memorial Baptist Church, the local hospital, Shiver Lumber Company, Robert Perry, CPA, the Bank of Commerce, the Citizens Bank of Americus, Eastern Airlines, and in the Atlanta, Tallahassee and Southerfield airport control towers. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Lyanne and Steve Hancock of Athens, and three grandchildren, Nick Hancock of Athens, Wes Hancock of Barnesville, and Anne Hancock of Wilmington, NC. Her husband, Russell Holloway, preceded her in death. Hancock Funeral Home, 427 South Lee Street, Americus, Georgia, is in charge of arrangements.
