Mr. William George Gengler, 88, 103 Whispering Pines Drive, passed away at his residence on April 21, 2009, following an extended illness. Memorial services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 4, in the cemetery at the Andersonville National Historic site. The Rev. Wendy Joyner will officiate. The family will receive friends at 103 Whispering Pines Drive. A native of Brooklyn, NY, Mr. Gengler was born August 29, 1920, a son of the late George and Margaret Gengler. He worked for the treasury department and served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. He was an active member of the Americus Shrine Club and the American Legion. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Walter McDill of Americus; 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey and Wanda Gengler of Orange City, FL, Charles and Pattie Gengler of Depew, NY, and Clifford and Karen Gengler of Angola, NY; a sister, Anne Beck of Duluth; 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren; wonderful care givers, Donna Richardson and family; and a number of nieces and nephews. Hancock Funeral Home, 427 South Lee Street, Americus, GA, is in charge of arrangements.
