Mr. Henry "Grady" Shumake passed away on Saturday evening, February 20, 2016, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, 427 South Lee Street, at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 23, following visitation from 3:00 p.m. until the funeral time. Interment services at Sunset Memorial Gardens will be private. Rev. Brooks Partain will officiate, and Mrs. Ann Partain will provide the music for the service. A native and life-long resident of Americus, Mr. Shumake was born November 29, 1923, a son of the late Nancy Lee and John Harmon Shumake. He was a member of Central Baptist Church and was a long-time employee of Redman Industries in Americus. He was a member of the amphibious force in the Pacific Theater while he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Survivors include his wife, June Hale Shumake and a son, Patrick Joseph Shumake of Powder Springs, GA. Also surviving are nieces Mary South of Athens, AL, Angie Livesay of Fort Myers, FL, Melanie Hawkins of Americus; and nephews, Robert Shumake of Americus, Christoher Hale and Robert Austin Hale, III, both of Americus; and several great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Henry Grady Shumake, Jr. in 1979, by brothers, John Shumake and Wyatt Shumake, and by a nephew, Allen Shumake.
