Marian Bagley Murray

Mrs. Marian Bagley Murray, age 96, passed away on Wednesday morning, May 11, 2016, at Sumter Retirement Village in Plains. Funeral services are planned for 3:00 PM on Sunday, May 15, from the graveside at Lebanon Cemetery in Plains. Rev. Keith Parks will officiate. The family will receive friends on Sunday between the hours of 1:30 and 2:30 PM at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St. Born October 31, 1919 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late William White Bagley and Claire Irene Bagley Bly. Mrs. Murray was retired as the bookkeeper for Murray Tractor Company. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Americus, where she organized the Church Library and served as its librarian for many years. She was a member of the Eastern Star, DAR, and was a past president for the Georgia Farm Equipment Association Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 69 years, George William Murray; by a daughter, Barbara Wellons; and by a brother and sister-in-law, William F. Bagley and Evelyn Bagley. Survivors include two sons: George William Murray, Jr. of Jamul, CA; and Ronald White Murray and daughter-in-law Margaret McGavran Murray of Columbus; grandson Richard Wellons and his wife Dalila of Memphis, TN; granddaughter Alethea Murray Sargent and her husband Daniel of El Cerrito, CA; great-granddaughters Corrina and Ramona Sargent of El Cerrito, CA; brother and sister-in-law, Alan and Vivian Bly of Interlachen, FL; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
