Garnett B. Johnson

Mr. Garnett Benjamin Johnson, age 94, passed away early Saturday morning, May 30, 2009, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 PM on Monday, June 1, in Shiloh Baptist Church with Rev. Betty Lou Miller and Rev. Hugh Harbort officiating. The family will greet friends in the fellowship hall of the church after the service while private interment is in progress in the church cemetery. Anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution may sent it to the League of the Good Samaritan, 2001 South Lee Street, Americus, GA 3170, or to any favorite charity. Born July 16, 1914, in Carroll County, Mr. Johnson was a son of the late Enoch Benjamin Johnson and Carrie Cosper Johnson. Mr. Johnson was of the Baptist faith and was a loyal father and grandfather. His favorite hobbies included fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family. He retired from Rylander Ford Company where he served as shop foreman. Following that retirement, he worked as a civil service employee and superintendent in the repair department at the marine base in Albany for a number of years. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Lawana and Hodges Whitaker of Albany; a son and daughter-in-law, Ben Johnson Jr. and Joan of Marietta; a sister-in-law, Tommie G. Johnson of Gray; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. His wife, Mrs. Rosalie Carter Johnson, preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were his brothers and sisters, Grace Moore, Christine Hearon, Horace Johnson, Velma Moore, Roy Johnson, Elsie Pittman, and Maude Wellons. Hancock Funeral Home, 427 South Lee Street, Americus, GA, is in charge of arrangements.
