Lois Magee Rockwell

Mrs. Lois Magee Rockwell, 77, of 904D Moore Circle, Americus, died May 30, 2009 at her home. A memorial service will be held at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains on Saturday, June 6, at 4:00 p.m. Mrs. Rockwell was born April 4, 1932, in Union City, PA, to the late Charles and Doris Magee. She was the widow of Raymond Elton Rockwell, a Baptist minister who served in Pennsylvania. She was a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Mr. and Mrs. Rockwell retired to Americus in 1980, becoming members of Koinonia Farm, and moved to Plains in 1991. They were active members of Maranatha Baptist Church where they started a ministry of recording and distributing President Carter’s Sunday School lessons. For 20 years, Mrs. Rockwell was an active volunteer with the Lake Blackshear Regional Library and was involved in the Literacy Project and the ESL program. She sang with the Civic Chorale, and was an active member of the Plains Garden Club, the Americus Book Club, and Magnolia Manor Wellness Center. Following the death of her husband in 2003, Mrs. Rockwell moved to Magnolia Manor in Americus. Survivors include her children, Phillip Rockwell of Stuart, FL, Timothy (and Beverly) Rockwell of Plains, Raymond Paul (and Dorothy) Rockwell of Shippensburg, PA, Mark Rockwell of Homestead, FL, and Kristine (and Joseph) Tromiczak of Minneapolis, MN; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff of Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, Hospice of Americus and Sumter County, and all of Mrs. Rockwell’s family and friends, near and far, who provided support and prayers during her illness.
