Mrs. Ellen Smith Williams, age 88, passed away peacefully on Wednesday afternoon, August 3, 2016, at the Ft Walton Beach Medical Center in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Funeral services are planned for 11AM on Monday, August 8, from the graveside at Smithville Cemetery in Smithville, Ga. The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon, August 7, between the hours of 3 to 5 PM at Hancock Funeral Home, Americus, Ga. and also, at the Smithville Methodist Church Fellowship Hall following the graveside service on Monday. A daughter of the late William Marion Heath and Nona Belle Webb Heath, she was born December 30, 1927 in Lake Wales, Florida. Mrs. Williams was a retired lab technician at Coats & Clark in Albany, and was a member of Smithville Baptist Church. She resided most of her life in Smithville until her retirement. She then moved to Welaka, Florida. The last six months of her life were spent at Bluewater Manor in Niceville, Florida. Survivors include a husband, Ralph Williams; five daughters: Betty Farr (John) of Orlando, Fl, Brenda Smith of Leesburg, Faye Stephens (Tom) of Jacksonville, Fl, Wanda Scott (Loranza) of Atlanta, Ga. and Sharon Borrero ( Agustin “Papo”) of Niceville, Fl; Grandchildren: Beth Herndon (Mike), Robb Farr (Lisa), Sonya Stephens, Leah Stephens, Chloe Scott, Trace Borrero, and Hannah Borrero; Great grandchildren: Tyler Herndon and Casey Herndon; and one sister, Frances Woods of Lakeland, Fl. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews. Mrs. Williams (Mema) expressed her love for her children, grandchildren and extended family by cooking their favorite “southern foods”. She was known for her famous cornbread dressing and coconut cake. She also loved fishing, crochet, “flashy” jewelry and decorating her home. Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her son, Ronnie Smith; two brothers: Robert Heath and John Heath, and by her husband, Willie Minor Smith.
