Neal Turner

Mr. Neal Turner, age 77, passed away very early on Friday morning, July 10, 2009, at his residence. He is to be cremated, and no formal service will be conducted. Friends may call at the family residence, 360 Morris Drive, Americus, between the hours of 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. for the next few days. Memorial contributions may be made to Southern Poverty Law Center, 400 Washington Avenue, Montgomery, AL 36104, or to Hospice of Americus and Sumter County, P. O. Box 1434, Americus, GA 31709. Born March 4, 1932, in Detroit, MI, Mr. Turner was a son of the late Irving Turner and Nettie Leibowitz Turner. He was a graduate of Wayne State University in Detroit and a member of Gamma Kappa Chi fraternity. In Americus, he was a member and one of the founders of the Early Bird Civitan Club and of the Association of Third World Countries. Those who knew him best describe him as a good man of high intelligence. He owned and managed Turner Enterprises until his retirement. Survivors include his wife of more than 53 years, Sara Lee Turner of Americus; a daughter and son-in-law, Laura Turner and Scott Lynn of Commerce Township, MI; a son, Paul Turner of Americus; a grandson, Joel Turner of Ramona, CA; a sister, Patricia Rosenman of Washington, DC, and a sister-in-law, Florence Goode of Bloomfield Hills, MI. Hancock Funeral Home, 427 South Lee Street, Americus, GA, is in charge of arrangements.
