Maxine K. Jordan

June 9, 1937 — November 15, 2016

Mrs. Maxine K. Jordan, age 79, of 165 Marlow Lane in Albany, Georgia, passed away on November 15, 2016, at The Willson Hospice House. Services are planned for 2:00 PM on Friday, November 18, at Sherwood Baptist Church, 2201 Whispering Pines Road, Albany, Georgia, with the Reverend Tom Pollock and Dr. Michael Catt officiating and Stephanie Bennett, Melody Spencer, and Mark Willard providing musical accompaniment. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends on Friday between the hours of 12:30 and 2:00 PM at Sherwood Baptist Church. Born June 9, 1937 in Americus, Georgia, Mrs. Jordan was the daughter of the late Fredrick Newton Kleckley and Rubye Martin Kleckley. She graduated from Americus High School in Americus, Georgia, and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Georgia College in Milledgville, Georgia. She was a member of an ensemble under the esteemed hand of the highly regarded director, Max Noah. A 34-year schoolteacher, she faithfully and dutifully followed the direction and guidance of her Master Teacher, Jesus Christ. Much of her work in education was heavily influenced by Howard G. Hendricks to whom she credits her passion for communicating God's Word through teaching. Mrs. Jordan taught at Riverview Academy High School and Terrell Academy High School, was an eleven-time recipient of the Star Teacher Award, and received numerous yearbook dedications. Additionally, she served for many years as the Recording Secretary for Southern Company Ambassadors. Mrs. Jordan was a 50+ year member of Sherwood Baptist Church where she served as a Children's Sunday School Teacher and member of the church choir. She regularly mentioned Sherwood as an important source of her spiritual strength and Dr. Michael Catt in helping her understand the power of prayer. As great a teacher as her students will attest, she was an equally great student of the Bible and witness for Jesus Christ. Her entire life, right up to the last days in the hospital, at The Willson Hospice House, and even to the point of her passing, she enthusiastically served as a witness for Jesus Christ joyfully glorifying and praising Him even as her health plummeted daily. A devoted Christian, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, her legacy will live on in the hundreds of students, the co-workers, friends, and family she touched through her love, devotion, and commitment to her Savior, Jesus Christ. Mrs. Jordan is survived by her loving, adoring husband, Robert Jordan, the love of her life since high school, and to whom she regularly referred to as a special gift from God. Married 57 years, she fully believed that theirs was a life journey directed by God. Other survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne Jordan and Mary Kaye of Madison, AL; two grandchildren: Mallory and Colson Jordan of Madison, AL; a sister and brother-in-law, Gerrie McGee and Jim of Port Charlotte, FL; a sister-in-law, Sharon Kleckley of Suwanee, GA, and several nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Lynn Jordan, parents, Fredrick N. Kleckley and Rubye, and by her brother, Fred Kleckley Jr. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that charitable donations be sent to The Willson Hospice House, 320 Foundation Lane, Albany, GA 31707.
