Mrs. Lottie Wise Tanner, age 92, passed away on Monday afternoon, January 2, 2017, at South Georgia Medical Center Berrien Campus in Nashville. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 6, at 3:00 PM at Saint Andrews Lutheran Church in Plains, with Pastor Charles Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Lebanon Cemetery in Plains. The family will receive friends between the hours of 1:00 and 3:00 PM at the church before the services, and at other times at Tanner Farm in Plains. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a gift to Saint Andrews Lutheran Church, 304 N Bond St., Plains, GA 31780; or to a charity of one's choice. A native of Sumter County, she was born March 13, 1924, a daughter of the late Tyre Phillip Wise and Lottie Meadows Wise. Mrs. Tanner was a certified beautician and a talented seamstress, and she was retired from Manhattan Shirt Factory. She was a lifetime member of Saint Andrews Lutheran Church, and her life revolved around her church and her family. Survivors include her children: Donna Herrin of Nashville, John Phillip (Buzzy) Tanner of Albany, and Carol Geriner & Jack Weigand of Tifton; grandchildren: Helena & Terry Marshall, Veronica Sylvester & Alvin Alford, Patricia Webb, Dianne Michelle (Mikki) & Jamie Owler, Donald Phillip & Stephanie Tanner, Stephen Darrah & Catherine Tanner, Zonda & Dan Petty, and Al & Sandi Pilcer; twelve great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren; one brother, J. M. & Betty Wise of Plains; one sister, Tulula W. Cosby of Smithville; one brother-in-law, Robert (Bobby) & Ira Jean Tanner of Lawrenceville; two sisters-in-law: Margie Austin of Americus and Georgia Tanner of Columbus; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Tanner, with whom she will celebrate their 74th wedding anniversary this Saturday in Heaven; and also by her parents; one brother, Luther Elmore Wise; and three sisters: Armenia Eloise Wise, Ann Wise Gilbreath, and Helen Wise Mayo.
