Mrs. Mary Foster Crawford of Marietta, GA, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2017 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center following a brief illness. A native of Plains, she was the daughter of the late Myrtice Mashburn Foster and Ernest Grover Foster, and was preceded in death by her husband, James Ray Crawford, Sr., in 1996; son, James Ray Crawford, Jr. in 2005; and brothers: John Foster, Henry Foster, Fred Foster, and James Foster. She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Crawford of Marietta; daughter-in-law, Susan Green Crawford of Marietta; grandchildren: James Ray Crawford, III, of Register, Dr. Kelly Crawford Grow & Dr. Parker Grow of Athens, Christopher and Mandy Crawford of Marietta, Major Bradley Crawford Sines and David Sines of Ft. Lewis, WA; great-grandchildren: Crawford and Caddy Grow, and Mason, Buie and Celie Crawford; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Crawford, a graduate of the University of Georgia, was a devoted wife and mother, and was involved in community and civic activities. She enjoyed a long, very active life, and had been a resident of Sumter Retirement Village in Plains for the past three years. She was of the Christian faith, and served actively in many areas of St. Luke United Methodist Church of Columbus, Mulberry United Methodist Church of Macon, and Maranatha Baptist Church of Plains, while her health permitted. Funeral services are planned for 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 31, from the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., with Rev. Brooks Partain officiating. Interment will follow in Friendship Cemetery, the burial site of five generations. Visitation will be held from 1:30 until 2:00 PM on Tuesday at Hancock Funeral Home.
