Mr. James Lamar Davis, Jr. passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2017, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. Services with military honors are planned for 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 3, from the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., with Rev. Brooks Partain officiating. A private interment will be held the following week at Andersonville National Historic Site. The family will receive friends on Saturday at Hancock Funeral Home, beginning at 1:00 PM. Born July 4, 1943 in Gray, GA, he was a son of the late James Lamar Davis, Sr. and Lois Virginia Miller Davis. He worked as a truck driver for Sumter Trucking and had been self employed for a number of years working as a farmer and with dairy cows. Mr. Davis was a member of The Church of Christ, where he was a hard working teacher and leader. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam War. He was a loving and devoted father and grandfather. Survivors include his daughter, Jenny Lou House (Michael); step-son, Bobby Holloway; two sisters: Ginny Davis Gordon and Sandra D. Dean (Buddy); one sister-in-law, Elaine Davis; five grandchildren: T.J. Page, Bella House, Cason Holloway, Ryan Holloway, and Austin Holloway; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; by one brother, Tommy Davis; by two sisters: Gloria Davis Penn and Joy Davis Trapp; and by one brother-in-law, Johnny Gordon.
