Druscilla Crum Gruhn

January 4, 1932 — June 13, 2017

Mrs. Druscilla Crum Gruhn, 85, passed into the hands of the Lord on June 13, 2017 after an extended illness. Born in Waynesboro, Pa., to the late Raymond and Celestial Crum. "Dru" and her family moved to Plant City in 1941 just before WWII. Growing up in Plant City, she attended local schools and graduated with the class of 1949 from PCHS. She attended Newberry College for two years and then returned to Florida Southern to graduate with honors. While at Newberry, she met the love of her life, William Gruhn and they were married in 1953. She and Bill moved to Americus, Ga. to begin their life together, where Bill initially taught school and coached football and Dru took on the role of housewife and mother. Soon, two sons joined them and the family became an integral part of the Americus business and social environment. Dru was busy raising their sons, helping Bill in a new business and participating in community and church activities. When the boys graduated from high school and left for the Navy and College, Dru and Bill moved to a senior living facility in Americus, where she lived (Bill passed away in July of 1993) until moving to Snellville, Ga. in 2016 to be near her son Jaye and his family. Due to her declining health, she resided at a very caring nursing home for several years and passed away under Hospice care. Dru was a loving wife, mother, grand and great grandmother and always enjoyed being with her family and many friends. Her sweet and outgoing disposition, along with her caring and polite ways will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband. Dru is survived by her two sons: Christopher (Kit) Raymond Gruhn & his wife Kathy of Winter Haven, FL and William (Jaye) J Gruhn III and his wife Kelly of Lilburn, GA; her three brothers: Fred Crum and his wife LaRue of Plant City, FL, Dan Crum of St. Petersburg, FL, and Ray Crum, Jr. and his wife Joyce of Peachtree Corners, GA. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Shannon Mercado, Elizabeth Dalke, Robert Landers, William J Gruhn IV, Kristen B. Gruhn and Katherine T. Presley; and by her great grandchildren: Mathew Benjamin Presley, Lilah Ann Gruhn, Mahogany Mercado and Antonio Mercado. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held in the committal pavilion at Andersonville National Historic Site near Americus on Thursday, June 15, at 12:00 PM. She will be buried in Andersonville National Cemetery with her late husband Bill, a U.S. Army veteran. Condolences may be addressed to Mr. and Mrs. William Gruhn, 1767 Hunters Trace, Lilburn, GA 30047; or to Mr. & Mrs. Christopher (Kit) R. Gruhn, 1240 Normandy Heights Circle, Winter Haven, FL 33880.
