Mrs. Mary Smith Crawley, age 85, passed away on Saturday morning, July 8, 2017, at Westside Terrace Health and Rehab Center in Dothan, AL, surrounded by family and caregivers. Funeral services are planned for 2:00 PM on Tuesday, July 11, from the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, with Rev. Brooks Partain officiating. Interment is to follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be her beloved grandsons, grandsons-in-law, and great-grandsons. The family will receive friends for visitation at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., between the hours of 1:00 and 2:00 PM on Tuesday, preceding the funeral. Born December 29, 1931 in Girard, AL, she was a daughter of the late James Mitchell Smith and Julia Miller Smith. Mary lived most of her life in Americus. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a former member of Benevolence Methodist Church. She was a current member of First Wesleyan Church. Mrs. Crawley was currently living in Dothan, AL at Westside Terrace Health and Rehab where she attended church services regularly and participated in Bible studies and gospel sings, along with many other activities. Mrs. Crawley was preceded in death in 1991 by her husband, Melvin Gordon Crawley, Sr. She is survived by the following family members: brother John Smith and wife Jean of Americus; sisters: Mildred Smith of Americus, and Virginia Driver and husband Herman of Americus; daughters: Julia Anna “Judy” McCarty and the late Johnny McCarty of Covington, Ga, and Beverly Jordan-Lipscomb and husband Phillip and the late Thomas C. Jordan of Ozark, Al; son Melvin Crawley and wife Patricia of Leesburg, Ga; nine grandchildren: Lisa Treadwell and husband Mark, John McCarty and wife Rhonda, Steven McCarty and wife Kelli, Angel Ready and husband Todd, Keith Jordan and wife Robyn, Mandy Prevatt and husband Todd, Cindy Kinney and husband Shane, Will Wise and wife Danielle, and Kelcie Crawley; eighteen great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.
