Mary Ruth Smith Dawson Mrs. Ruth Dawson, of Americus, died early Tuesday morning, September 29, 2009, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center in Americus. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, October 1, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Rev. Hugh DeLoach officiating. Ruth was the wife of the late Homer Alexander Dawson. Friends may call upon the family at her home, 106 Cornelia Drive in Americus. Ruth Dawson was born July 18, 1913 in Soperton, GA, the daughter of the late Edward and Sophronia Phillips Smith. Ruth and Homer had made their home in Americus for many, many years. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Americus. Ruth was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, a former Regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a former President of the Glendale Garden Club. Ruth is survived by two daughters: Sondra (Jim) Littlefield and Alexis (Ralph) Wells of Americus; grandchildren: Jimbo Littlefield of Americus, Robin (Bobby) Valentino of Moultrie; Timothy Dawson Littlefield of Americus; Carole (Thomas) Lewis of Buena Vista; Stephanie (Jeff) MaGee of Americus; Jaime (Deke) Smith of Americus; and Matt Mallard of Auburn, AL. Great-grandchildren: Ross Littlefield of Americus, Jake Littlefield of Kennesaw, Dianne Littlefield of Americus; Averi Smith of Americus; and Ian Mallard of Auburn, AL. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Celeste Dawson Mallard, a daughter, preceded Ruth in death in 2001. Three older sisters, Pauline, Margaret and Mildred, also preceded her in death. Hancock Funeral Home, 427 South Lee Street, Americus, GA, is in charge of arrangements.
