Edwin "Buddy" Durham Thayer

Mr. Edwin Durham "Buddy" Thayer, age 73, passed away on Saturday evening, August 19, 2017, at his home in Americus. Funeral services are planned for 11:00 AM on Monday, August 21, from the grave side at Oak Grove Cemetery. Rev. Hugh DeLoach will officiate. A visitation will be held on Monday from 10:00 until 10:45 AM at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St. A native of Sumter County, Mr. Thayer was born September 17, 1943, the only child of the late George Edwin Thayer and Mattie Durham Thayer. A graduate of the University of Georgia, he held a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and a Masters Degree in Education. He had worked as a school teacher and an employment interviewer for the Georgia Department of Labor. Mr. Thayer was retired as an auditor from the Georgia Department of Revenue. He was a member of Central Baptist Church, and he dearly loved his pet dogs. Mr. Thayer was preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by a number of cousins.
