Mrs. Betty C. Moyd, 88, 2001 South Lee Street, died early Saturday morning, October 10, 2009, in Palmyra Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 12, in the First United Methodist Church of Americus, with interment to follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Rev. Bill Dupree and Rev. Jim Smith will officiate. Born February 3, 1921, in Bryan County, Mrs. Moyd was a daughter of the late Ralph Lorin Clanton and Claire Dewberry Clanton. She worked as the office manager for Fayette Manufacturing Company for many years. For shorter periods of time, she also worked for the Americus Housing Authority and the Singer Sewing Center. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Americus, the Upper Room Sunday School class, and the Nimble Fingers quilting group. For many years she was also a member of the Railroad Auxiliary. The family will receive friends at Hancock Funeral Home from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 11. At other times, friends may call at 107 Havencrest Drive in Americus. Family members suggest that memorial contributions be made to the League of the Good Samaritan, 2001 South Lee St., Americus, GA 31709. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn Moyd Jacobs and her husband Harold of Americus; two sons and daughters-in-law, William R. (Bill) Moyd, Jr. and his wife Kay of Sebastian, FL, and James Lorin (Jim) Moyd and his wife Vicki of Sharpsburg, GA; a sister, Jeanne Prosser of Americus; and a sister-in-law, Alice Clanton of Americus. Also surviving are her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Paige and Richard Goode of Melbourne, FL, and their children, McKenzie and Madison Goode; Mandi and Bob Bishop of Bedford, NH, and their daughter, Camille Bishop; Jeff and Suzy Jacobs of Marietta and their children, Andrew and Lily Jacobs; Josh and Stacey Jacobs of Newnan and their daughter Maddie; Melanie and Chris Castleberry of Americus and their children, Emma and Erin Castleberry; and Lorin Moyd of Sharpsburg, GA. A number of nieces and nephews also survive. Preceding her in death were a brother, Ralph Clanton, a sister, Shirley McNeilly, and a brother-in-law, Homer (Bud) Prosser.
