Fain R. Sutherland

Mr. Fain R. Sutherland, age 87, passed away on Saturday morning, September 23, 2017, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. Funeral services are planned for 11:00 AM on Monday, September 25, in the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., with Rev. Raymond Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Preston City Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 AM on Monday at Hancock Funeral Home. A native of Preston, Mr. Sutherland was born August 12, 1930, a son of the late A.H. Sutherland and Grace Rees Sutherland. He was retired as Crop Manager for the Southwest Georgia Research and Education Center in Plains, was a retired farmer, and served in the United States Army as an M.P. (military police). Mr. Sutherland was of the Baptist faith and was a charter member of the Georgia Young Farmers Association. He was a hard worker in all that he did, and he loved his cats. He was preceded in death in 1980 by his first wife and young daughter, Ellen Sutherland and Lisa Marie Sutherland. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and by two brothers: Amos Sutherland and Gene Sutherland. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann Tinker Sutherland of Plains; step-daughter, Debbie Fiorillo (Mike) of Plains; step-sons: Ricky Chavers (Lisa) of Plains, and Tim Chavers (Cindy) of Plains; adopted son, Randy Sutherland (Retha) of Glenwood, GA; adopted daughter, Tammie Sutherland Hancock (Larry) of Ave Maria, FL; brother, George Sutherland (Phyllis) of Dalton; sister, Marcilla Youngblood (Paul) of Albany; brother-in-law, Jimmie Tinker (Susan) of Thomson, GA; sisters-in-law: Edna Sutherland of Oxford, GA, Ginger Sutherland of Savannah, and Jennie Freeman (Frank) of Plains; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers and food, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions be made to Plains Baptist Church Building Fund, 301 N Bond St., Plains, GA 31780; or to Preston Baptist Church, 6677 Cass St., Preston, GA 31824; or to the Thomas A.
