Mr. Colvin H. "Bud" Crandall, Jr., age 83, passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2017, at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, AL. Funeral services are planned for 12:30 PM on Friday, October 20, in the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., with Rev. Brooks Partain officiating. A committal service with military honors will follow at 2:00 PM at Andersonville National Historic Site, with burial in Andersonville National Cemetery. The following gentlemen are asked to serve as pallbearers: David Crandall, Bryan Crandall, Sherman Lyle, Scott Matherly, Danny Whiteman, Christopher Lyle, B.N. Blankenship, and Laurence Owings. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Asbury Methodist Church, 6690 Cahaba Valley Road, Birmingham, AL 35242. A native of Sumter County, he was born August 29, 1934, son of the late Colvin Henry Crandall and Eunice Ouida Culpepper Crandall. He graduated from Americus High School in 1952, and in 1956 graduated from Georgia Tech with a B.S. degree in Industrial Management. He was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternal order. He served in the United States Air force from 1956 until 1960, achieving the rank of Captain, and was a pilot in the Strategic Air Command. Mr. Crandall was employed for 25 years in the insulation industry in sales and sales management, and was vice-president of sales. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his wife, Barbara Jean "Jeanie" Young Crandall. Survivors include his children: Elizabeth E. Lyle (Sherman) of Grassy Creek, NC, David C. Crandall (Carol) of Pelham, AL, and Bryan H. Crandall of Winston-Salem, NC; granddaughter, Christina Crandall of Pelham, AL; step-children: Cindi Stewart of Memphis, TN, Scott Matherly (Marie) of Birmingham, and Daniel Whiteman of Montevallo, AL; step-grandchildren: Piper Stewart of Birmingham, Eric Reid of Los Angeles, CA, and Christopher Lyle of Winston-Salem, NC; and his long-time companion, Beverly Oschenhirt of Birmingham.
