Ray Edwards, age 80, died peacefully in his home on Saturday, October 28, 2017. He grew up in Crawford County, GA and spent most of his early years working on the farm with his grandfather and “hero” J. Pope Teel and his grandmother Jewel Teel. Ray studied Farm Mechanics and Agriculture at ABAC before returning home to work on the farm. He later then received a BS in Business Administration from Georgia Southwestern College as well as a Master of Science in the Studies of Aging from the University of North Texas. Ray retired as President/CEO of Magnolia Manor in 1995, after 28 years of faithful service. Under his leadership and vision, the organization grew and flourished, serving multiple communities across South Georgia. After his retirement, he spent several years at Visions for Sumter, utilizing his financial expertise and care for others to help the not-for- profit organization meet its community service goals and objectives. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 33 years, Madeline Edwards, whom he selflessly cared for during the last three years as she struggled with a debilitating disease that sadly took her life on October 5, 2017. He is survived by his loving children, Joey Edwards of Plains, GA, and Laura Edwards of Jacksonville, FL. His private funeral services and burial will be held in Roberta, GA on Friday, November 3rd at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Plains United Methodist Church, 301 W.
