Mrs. Alice R. Bridges, 93, passed away early Monday morning, October 26, 2009, in Magnolia Manor Nursing Center. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 28, in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Rev. Wendy Joyner officiating. Born February 13, 1916, in Plains, Mrs. Bridges was a daughter of the late Jesse Bernard Ratliff and Martha Nona Deriso Ratliff. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and was in charge of arranging the church flowers. She worked at Manhattan Shirt Company for more than 20 years, serving most of those years as a supervisor. She volunteered as a pink lady at the local hospital and spent countless hours tending her flowers. The family will receive friends at Hancock Funeral Home from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27. Family members suggest that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Americus and Sumter County, P. O. Box 1434, Americus, GA 31709. Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Rose Ratliff of Plains, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her twin brother, Albert Ratliff, and by her beloved husband of more than 50 years, Preston H. Bridges.
