William "Bill" Moncrief

December 5, 1931 — January 9, 2018

Mr. William T. "Bill" Moncrief passed away on Tuesday morning, January 9, 2018, at Midtown Medical Center in Columbus. Funeral services are planned for 2:00 PM on Friday, January 12, at First Baptist Church. Interment with Masonic Rites will follow at 4:30 PM at Roberta City Cemetery. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Members of the Senior Men's Sunday School Class, and members of the Sumter Shrine Club are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, January 11, between the hours of 6:00 & 8:00 PM at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St. A native of Crawford County, GA, he was a son of the late W. Fate Moncrief and the late Effie Lou Smith Moncrief. Mr. Moncrief was a retired educator, having taught Electronic Technology at South Georgia Technical College, where he came to be affectionately referred to as "Chief" by his students. He was a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 26, and was a member of M.B. Council Lodge No. 13, F&AM, and a member and past-president of the Sumter Shrine Club, where he served as secretary-treasurer for many years, and a "road runner", transporting children and families to and from the Shriners Hospital for Children in Greenville, SC. Survivors include his wife, Carlise Moncrief of Americus; four children: Tim Moncrief (Debra) of Vidalia, Donna Moncrief Bishop (Donnie) of Fayetteville, Janet Moncrief Jones (Jeff) of Sylvester, and Neil Moncrief (Karen) of Leesburg; six grandchildren: Logan Moncrief (Emily), Alex Phillips (Lindsey), Lucy Phillips, Carson Moncrief, Will Moncrief, and Carlson Moncrief; two great-grandchildren: Finley Moncrief and William Rooks Phillips; one brother, Charles Moncrief of Atlanta; and several nieces, nephews, and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Stuart Moncrief and Bertie Jarrell Moncrief.
