Mrs. Jeanette Strange Knowlton, 96, passed away on Wednesday evening, January 24, 2018, at Kindred Hospice in Columbus. Funeral services are planned for 2:00 PM on Monday, January 29, at Central Baptist Church, with Rev. Hugh DeLoach and Spencer Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Lebanon Cemetery in Plains. Visitation with the family will be held at Central Baptist Church for one hour prior to the funeral services. Born November 19, 1921 in Ellaville, Mrs. Knowlton was a daughter of the late Walter Greene Strange and the late Jennie Harrison Strange. She was a graduate of Ellaville schools, Georgia Southwestern College, and business school in Macon. She was a long-time resident of Americus, working as a bookkeeper at Gammage Print Shop, James Chevrolet, and Oxford Motor Co. She was a member of Central Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Knowlton Davis (Steve) of Columbus; a son and daughter-in-law, Hiram Fox Knowlton (Kayce) of Saint Johns, FL; and a daughter and son-in-law, Flora Knowlton Norris (Brian) of Ramer, AL; six grandchildren: Hilary Davis Smith (Ricky) of Columbus, Spencer Davis (Amy) of Andrews, NC, Erin Davis Wisehart (John) of Fortson, GA, Brian Kelly (Donna) of Plano, TX, Kyle Norris (Carol) of Alamogordo, NM, and Sean Norris (fiancee Rachel Nading) of Austin, TX. Great-grandchildren are Tennyson and Moreland Smith, Alani, Knox and Jed Davis, Carter, Myah and Sadie Wisehart, Lauren, Leah and Miller Kelly, and Benjamin and Olivia Norris. Survivors also include brothers Walter G. Strange, Jr. of Tifton, and Bobby Strange (Margie) of Americus; sisters Arbie Strange Bridges of McDonough, and Betty Strange Campbell of Franklin, TN; and brother-in-law Sam Stephens of Anderson, SC. A large number of nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, H. Walter Knowlton; a sister, Sue Strange Stephens; sister-in-law Murthel Strange; and brothers-in-law Palmer Bridges and Porter Campbell.
