Mrs. Marthalene Callaway House, age 96, passed away on Monday evening, January 29, 2018, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center. Funeral services are planned for 3:00 PM on Thursday, February 1, from the graveside at Oak Grove Cemetery, with Dr. Dennis Stalvey officiating. There will be a short visitation following the funeral services. Born February 24, 1921 in Helena, GA, she was a daughter of the late Bob Franklin Callaway and the late Clyde Burch Callaway. Marthalene was a cosmetologist at Lucy's Beauty Shop for many years. She was a member of Central Baptist Church, and worked in the four-year-old Sunday School for 24 years. She loved people, especially children. She enjoyed baking, gardening, watching sports (the Atlanta Braves), going to US Post Office conventions, and family beach trips. She was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, Bill House, and by her sister, Mary Nell Callaway Carson. She is survived by her daughters: Becky Smith (Lyman) of Roswell, Beth Williams (Earl) of Americus, and Jane House of Americus; one granddaughter, Sage Archer of Valdosta; two grandsons: Saylor Williams (Rhonda) of Salem, AL and Buddy Smith (Meg) Of Marietta; three great-grandchildren: Addison Archer of Valdosta, and Owen Smith and Annie Smith of Marietta; one beloved brother, Bobby Callaway (Betty) of Atlanta; and several nieces and nephews.
