Mr. J. C. Webb, III, age 70, Salters Mill Road, Plains, died on Sunday morning, November 29, 2009, in Phoebe-Putney Memorial Hospital. The family will receive friends at Hancock Funeral Home from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 30. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday in the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lee Smith officiating. Interment will follow on Wednesday afternoon in the Liberty Grove Baptist Church Cemetery near Smithville, Mississippi. Pallbearers will include Terry Marshall, Lee Sylvester, William Manning, Chance Manning, Todd Grady, and Tony Grady. Born September 3, 1939, in Sumter County, Mr. Webb was a son of Mrs. Caroline Webb of Plains, who survives, and the late J. C. Webb, II. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of the Plains United Methodist Church. He retired from Vanderbilt Mortgage Company where he had served as a field manager. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Plains United Methodist Church or to the Methodist Church Children’s Home. Survivorsinclude his wife, Linda Webb of Plains; his mother, Caroline Webb of Plains; a brother, Warner B. Webb of Ellaville; daughters, Helena Marshall (Terry) of Tifton, Lori Manning (William) of Adamsville, AL, Veronica Sylvester of Portland, TN, and Patricia Webb of Tifton; an uncle, George Geopp of Americus; a son-in-law, Bobby Sylvester (Vanessa) of Ashburn; grandchildren, Madisyn Marshall of Tifton, Lee Sylvester (Cassie) of Ashburn, Shelby, Chance, Leigha, and Kaden Manning, all of Adamsville, AL, Carter and Colton Sylvester of Ashburn, and Alan Mauldin of Ashburn; a great grandson, Alexander Sylvester of Ashburn. He was preceded in death by his father, J. C. Webb, II, and a daughter, Lisa Reedy. Hancock Funeral Home, 427 South Lee St., Americus, GA is in charge of arrangements.
