Kathleen "Kitty" Mccall Williams

Mrs. Kathleen "Kitty" McGarrah McCall Williams died on March 6, 2018, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. She was 96 years old. Funeral services will be held on Thursday March 8, at 2:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church in Americus, with Reverend Sommer Fulmer Bower officiating. Interment will follow with a private burial at Oak Grove Cemetery in Americus. The family will receive visitors beginning at 1:00 on Thursday in the church fellowship hall. Mrs. McCall Williams was born on Feb 20, 1922, in Calhoun County, Georgia. Her parents were Walter Scott McGarrah and Kittie Walker McGarrah. She was married to the late William (Bill) McCall for 53 years. In 1946, Bill and Kitty moved from Black Mountain, NC to Americus. Together they built and operated The Varsity, Americus’ first drive-in restaurant for over 31 years. Mr. McCall preceded her in death in 1995. In her earlier years, Kitty was an active member of the Junior Service League, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Azalea Garden Club. She was also a very active member of First Presbyterian Church where she taught the Primary Sunday School class for over 20 years and later the Adult Sunday School class. She served as President of the Women of the Church and served on the Board of the District Women’s Group. After Bill’s death, Kitty moved to a villa at the Magnolia Manor Retirement Center in Americus where she still enjoyed her active life. There she met and married, Bill Williams, and they enjoyed living in one of the Lake Cottages at the Manor. Mr. Williams preceded her in death in 2008. She is survived by her 3 children: Kay Hipp (Bud), Scott McCall (Marilyn), Earl McCall (Kathy). Also surviving are five grandchildren: Kitty McCurry (Kenny), Bill Hipp (Shannon), Molly McCall, Anderson McCall and Leslie DeVane; five great-grandchildren: Ashley Mccurry, Taylor McCurry, Henry Hipp, Jack Hipp, and Tinley White; and one great-great grandson, Karson Reagan. Kitty’s children would like to express their sincere appreciation to all those helping people for their kindness and love when their mother lived out her long, last years of her life, especially the donors who contributed to the joy of the Magnolia Manor.
