Rev. W. B. Windham, age 94, of Tifton, former resident of Americus and pastor of Brooklyn Heights Baptist Church for 27 years, died on Friday morning, April 9, 2010, in Cypress Pond Assisted Living facility in Tifton. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 13, in the Greater Vision Baptist Church with Rev. Gene Wisehart and Rev. Bill Gluck officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Rev. Stacy Penland and Rev. Houston Berry officiating. Those who are requested to serve as active pallbearers include Andy Black, Nathan Black, Alex Long, JR Player, Jimmy Holley, Sammy Curry, Michael Weldon, and Larry McKenzie. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Durden, Edgar Player, Michael Cochran, and Charles Drake. Born December 9, 1915, in Pike Co., Alabama, Rev. Windham was a son of the late Fletcher Windham and the late Lizzie Armenda Chancellor Windham. Rev. Windham was the founder of Brooklyn Heights Baptist Church and Day Care Center, and in addition to his service as the pastor of Brooklyn Heights Baptist Church and leader of its school and day care center, he was a former chaplain for the Civil Air Patrol in Americus and a veteran of World War II. The family will receive friends at Hancock Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 12. Survivors include four daughters and three sons-in-law, Linda Rodgers of Sylvester, Sandra and Steve Wilson of Marathon, FL, Carolyn and Neal Black of Alapaha, and Beverly and Mike Imon of Hahira; grandchildren Tracy and Buddy Johnson of Colquitt, Lori Rodgers of Sycamore, Andy and Kristin Black of Warner Robins, Nathan and Stacey Black of Bethel Park, PA, and Madelynn and Mallory Phan of Hahira; great grandchildren, Alex Long of Bainbridge, Courtney and Jaycie Johnson of Colquitt, and Emily Rodgers of Sycamore; and several nieces and nephews.
