Cliff Carswell

Mr. Cliff Carswell, 77, passed away at his residence early Thursday morning, May 13, 2010. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 15, in Oak Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Don Hutchens and the Rev. Bill Dupree officiating, assisted by the Rev. Robert Beckum and the Rev. Ernest Carswell. Born July 16, 1932, in Americus, Mr. Carswell was a son of the late Clifton Harris Carswell, Sr. and Ruby Harris Carswell. He was an active member of Calvary Episcopal Church where he sang in the choir and participated in the Calvary Mens’ Club. He was the former owner and pharmacist of Red’s Pharmacy and was a member of the Georgia Pharmaceutical Association. He was a former member of the Americus Rotary Club and served on its Board of Directors. In retirement, he worked at CVS and the Magnolia Manor pharmacy. He was in the U.S. Navy from 1952 until 1956, and served as a hospital corpsman at Bethesda Naval Hospital. Friends may call at 207 Wildwood Circle. Family members suggest that memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Episcopal Church, 408 South Lee Street, Americus, GA 31709 or to the League of the Good Samaritan, 2001 South Lee Street, Americus, GA 31709. Survivors include his wife, Jean Carswell of Americus; two sisters, Grace Bell of Macon and Carol Hungate of Gastonia, NC; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a very special family friend, Paul Williamson. Hancock Funeral Home, 427 South Lee Street, Americus, GA is in charge of arrangements.
