Mrs. Deborah Ann Reeves Allen, 59, passed away on Monday, June 28, 2010, at her home at Lake Statum in Americus, Georgia with her loved ones at her side after a prolonged illness. Born in Jesup, Georgia on June 25, 1951, Deborah was the daughter of Ann Way Reeves of Allenhurst, Georgia and Roy Lemuel Reeves of Sardis, Georgia. Mrs. Allen was of the Methodist faith and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Americus. Deborah was a wife and homemaker and was very involved in the lives of her family. After raising her family, Deborah resumed her pursuit of a degree in Political Science at Georgia Southwestern State University and would have soon graduated, if not for her illness. Mrs. Allen was the treasurer of the Dogwood Garden Club and had been a member of the Christian Women's Association. She is survived by her husband, Herbert Eugene "Gene" Allen, daughter, Sheryl Lynn Slappey Denly (Greg) of Valdosta, two sons, Marvin Zack Slappey and Jacob Eugene Allen, both of Atlanta. She is also survived by a step-son, Lee Herbert Allen (Lauren) of Leesburg, Georgia. Her other surviving family include her mother, Ann Way Bass of Americus, a sister, Robbie Cordell (Billy) also of Americus, and a brother Ezekiel P. "Kiel" Bass (Ginny) of Fayetteville, Georgia. Deborah had five grandchildren: Bailey Allen, Laura Leigh Allen, Emma Nicole Allen, Collin Denly and Benjamin Denly, as well as several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to acknowledge a dear friend, Jan Anthony, and a caring companion at her side, Susie Hart. Funeral services are planned for Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at 11:30 AM, from the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, 427 South Lee Street, Americus, GA. Interment will follow at Andersonville National Historic Site Cemetery. Rev. Jim Smith & Dr. Gary Kline will officiate. A visitation will be held Tuesday night, June 29, 2010, from 7:00-9:00 PM at Hancock Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Americus Sumter County Hospice, P.O. Box 1434, Americus, GA 31709, or Georgia Southwestern State University, 800 Wheatley Street, Americus, GA 31709. Hancock Funeral Home, 427 South Lee Street, Americus, Georgia, is in charge of arrangements.
