Mrs. Alice Walker Rylander, 91, of 901-A Moore Drive, Americus, passed away Monday afternoon, July 5, 2010, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. Funeral services are planned for Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at 11:00 from the grave side at Oak Grove Cemetery. Rev. Bill Dupree and Rev. Jim Smith will officiate. Born October 31, 1918 in Brunswick, GA, she was the only child of the late Clyde Zachary Walker and Mary Virginia Harrison Walker. She became Mrs. Walter Rylander on September 1, 1941, and they were married for over 68 years. Mrs. Rylander owned and managed The Old Library and worked for a time at the Kinnebrew Company and at Mary Baldwin Antiques. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and was very active as long as her health permitted, serving as chairman of the house committee for a number of years. She was an active member of the Colonial Dames of America and a long time member and past president of the Junior League and the Country Club Auxiliary. She attended the University of Georgia for 4 years, graduating in 1940. She was a member of Chi Omega Sorority at the University of Georgia. Mrs. Rylander loved to play bridge and played almost every week. She was an excellent cook and always wanted to write a cookbook but never got to it. Survivors include her husband, Walter Rylander, Sr., and her son and daughter-in-law, Walter Rylander, Jr. and Dana Osborne Rylander.
