Farrah Johnson Castleberry

Mrs. Farrah Johnson Castleberry, 39, of Huntington Road, Americus, Georgia died after a lengthy illness, Friday, August 6, 2010 at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 10, at First United Methodist Church in Americus at 5:30 p.m. The family will receive visitors after the service in the sanctuary or other times at the residence of B T and Ann Johnson. The Rev. James W. Smith will officiate. Farrah was born July 7, 1971. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Americus. A graduate of Southland Academy, she received her B.S., M.Ed., and Ed.S. in Early Childhood Education from Georgia Southwestern State University. She was a dedicated and loving teacher for the Sumter County school system for 16 years; teaching at both Cherokee and Sumter County Primary School. Farrah was President of Kappa Delta Sorority, and a member of the Junior Service League. Through her involvement with the FORCE Friends Big/Little sister program with the Americus DFACS, as a teenager Farrah began mentoring to young girls who were less fortunate than she. Farrah's smile, sweet spirit and warm, generous heart touched many lives. She is survived by her husband Matthew Castleberry and their son Preskitt, age 4, her parents Mr. and Mrs. B.T. Johnson, her grandmother Tibby Knowles and her sister Hunter and husband Michael Jones and nephew Knowlen. She is also survived by her husband's father Huck Castleberry and wife Barbara, grandparents Paul and Rosa Preskitt, his sister Mandi Bass and her husband Mark, nephew London and niece Ashlyn, step-father Linton Welch, and a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother-in-law Vicki Preskitt Welch. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 200 South Lee Street, Americus, Georgia 31709 or a charity of one's choice. Hancock Funeral Home, 427 South Lee Street, Americus, GA, is in charge of arrangements.
