Mr. Jesse Bernard Williams, Sr., 92, passed away very early on Monday morning, August 23, 2010, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center. A rosary service will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 24, in the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, 427 South Lee Street, with a visitation to follow from 7:00 -9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held in St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. on Wed., August 25, with interment to follow in the cemetery at Andersonville National Historic Site. Father Laurence Lucree will officiate. Born September 2, 1917, in Sherman, TX, Mr. Williams was a son of the late Thomas Erwin Williams, Sr. and Rosa Julia Grabber Williams. He was an army veteran of World War II, having served from 1941 until 1945. He was a cattle farmer, a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union, Local 323, Columbus. Memorial contributions may be made to the building fund at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 332 S. Lee Street, Americus, GA 31709, or to Hospice of Americus and Sumter County, P. O. Box 1434, Americus, GA 31709. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Rose Mayo of LaFayette, and Suzan W. Donahue and her husband, Steve, of Anguilla, British West Indies; two sons, Jessie B. Williams, Jr. of Leslie and John T. Williams and his wife, Pat, of Leslie; 10 grandchildren, Maggie Mohiuddin, Matthew Muench, Cathy Howard, Anna Warcewicz, Rachel Mayo, Audrey Mayo, Libby James, Bo Williams, Lindy Williams, and Daniel Williams; five great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. His wife, Betty S. Williams, preceded him in death on February 14, 1993. Hancock Funeral Home, 427 South Lee Street, is in charge of arrangements.
