Dorothy C. Beauchamp

Mrs. Dorothy C. Beauchamp, 94, formerly of Smithville, passed away on Thursday evening, September 9, in Americus at Magnolia Manor nursing center. A visitation will be held from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 11, in the city gazebo in Smithville, followed by a graveside service to begin shortly thereafter in the Smithville Cemetery. Rev. Carl Dunn will officiate. Born September 14, 1915, in Smithville, she was a daughter of the late Jesse Lee Cooper and Eula Hooks Cooper. A devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, she was a member of the Smithville Baptist Church and served as the church treasurer for more than 30 years. She was active in the Sunday School and the Women’s Missionary Union of the Church. She was also a member of the Smithville Garden Club. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Georgia Baptist Children’s Homes, P. O. Box 329, Palmetto, GA 30268. Survivors include her three sons and daughters-in-law, Lofton S. and Margaret Beauchamp of Lakeview, NC, Joe R. and Mary Beauchamp of Camilla, and James N. and Jackie Beauchamp of Dalzell, SC; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Her husband, Lofton S. Beauchamp, Sr., preceded her in death. Hancock Funeral Home, 427 South Lee Street, Americus, GA, is in charge of arrangements.
