Mrs. Mary Edith Dupree Young, 81, formerly of Albany, passed away Monday morning, September 27, 2010, at Perfect Care in Americus. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 29, in the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Dupree and the Rev. John McComas officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for an hour preceding the service. Interment will follow in Concord United Methodist Church Cemetery. Requested to serve as active pallbearers are Ben Dupree, Ronnie Dupree, Neil Hagerson, Boyd Hagerson, Carroll Cato, and Ric Tipton. Asked to serve as honorary pallbearers are Milton Hagerson, Austin “Doc” Hagerson, Mack Young, Henry Young, Dr. Jim Dupree, Julian Clegg, and George Sanders. Born October 26, 1928, in Plains, Mrs. Young was the only daughter of the late George Cleveland Dupree and Nereus Allen Dupree. She was a member of the Radium Springs Baptist Church where she participated in all activities of the church. She taught third grade for more than 30 years in the public schools of Sumter and Dougherty counties and became an active member in the Retired Teachers Association. The family will appreciate all expressions of love and concern, including flowers or contributions to any favorite charity. Survivors include her brother, Alfred Dupree and his wife, Rose Ann, of Americus; brothers-in-law, Henry Young of Smithville and Roy M. Young and his wife, Mattie, of Albany; other sisters-in-law, Billie Dupree of Americus, Rachel Baker of Smithville, Joyce Davis and her husband, George, of Smithville, Nancy Greene of Albany, and Sara Robinson of Shreveport, LA; and a number of nieces and nephews, including Lee Ann Tipton and her husband, Ric, of Midland, and Fred Dupree and his wife, Sara, of Sharpsburg. Her husband, Robert Richard Young, and two half-brothers, Ben Dupree of Americus and Julian Dupree of Valdosta, preceded her in death. Hancock Funeral Home, 427 South Lee Street, Americus, GA, is in charge of arrangements.
