Mrs. Luvenia Kearns Peters, 87, passed away at her residence in Americus on Friday afternoon, October 1, 2010. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 3, in Central Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bryan Myers officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Her eight grandsons will serve as active pallbearers, and include John Paul Peters, Matthew Peters, Stan Hughes, Chad Hughes, Paul Richmond, Jr., Michael Fletcher, Jeff Fletcher, and Ryan Peters. The Couples Sunday School class members of Adult 6, in Central Baptist Church are requested to serve as honorary pallbearers. Born February 20, 1923, in Pelham, Mrs. Peters was the daughter of the late C. Leroy “Cap” Kearns and Lucille Hayes Kearns Keefer. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and was active in Sunday School activities as long as her health permitted. She was a dedicated wife and mother and worked tirelessly to care for her family. The family will receive friends at Hancock Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 2. At other times, friends may call at the family residence. Survivors include her husband, Ernest Peters, Jr.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Pam and Ed Hughes of Kennesaw, Debra and Paul Richmond, Sr. of Americus, and Jean Hinson of Americus; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Donald Peters of Albany, and Paul and Leigh Ann Peters of Americus; a brother, Rev. Irvin L. Kearns of Pontiac, Illinois; six granddaughters, Lisa Goodin and her husband, Frank, Kem Gluckert and her husband Carl, Maggie Richmond, Lindsey Hinson, Kylie Hinson, and Meg Peters; three granddaughters-in-law, Rebekah Hughes, Jenny Richmond, and Katie Fletcher; eleven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
