Angela Rowe Hewitt

September 10, 1949 — January 27, 2022

Mrs. Angela Rowe Hewitt, age 72, passed away on Thursday evening, January 27, 2022 at Atrium Health Navicent Medical Center in Macon. Funeral services are planned for 3:00 PM on Saturday, February 5, at St. George's Episcopal Church in Griffin, GA. Burial services will be held in Oak Grove Cemetery on Sunday, February 6, at 3:00 PM. Angie was born in Americus on September 10, 1949, the only child of Annette and O. Z. Rowe and (when not engaged in her later, extensive travels) was a lifelong resident of Georgia. Her early childhood was markedly influenced by her Rowe grandparents, from whom she learned and enjoyed strong skills in needlework, music and gardening, especially hydrangeas; all interests blossomed into a love for and practice of the decorative arts, ripening into painting and gilding. The Italian Renaissance was one of her favorite eras. She grew up in the close, strongly loyal Rowe family and she thrived on the many loving relationships cultivated with her many cousins, whom she considered her siblings, and the lives of the families they built. Her marriage to John in 1991 extended these relationships to his sons, Tyler and Blaine and, later, to their children, whose company she embraced and whom, as their “Glamma”, she enthusiastically supported, attending and cheering-on their every dance, gymnastics and softball event. Her passions, paired with an academic degree in Economics, yielded a multi-faceted ability to design, write and implement many model computer programs serving the clients of Hewitt Utility Economic Services, Inc., the successful consulting business she maintained with her husband, John, for over 30 years. She and John have been faithful members of Saint George’s Episcopal Church in Griffin, where she assisted the work of the parish’s Flower Guild. With John, Angie mentored numerous church groups, mostly youth, both at home and abroad. She shared her love for Italy (her first encounter came as a teenage tourist) with various family members and friends, over many years of return visits. In turn, she developed lasting friendships with citizens of Italy, notably Doni and Auro, with whom she maintained close touch, in both languages. After gaining a strong familiarity with the entire country, she devoted considerable time and energy to study in Florence, honing the various techniques of gilding, taught by resident masters of the delicate art. Everywhere she went she offered her refined gift of Southern hospitality to anyone who entered their home. A devoted Christian, she now is enjoying the hospitality of heaven. Angie is survived by her loving husband John, sons Tyler (Elizabeth) and Blaine (Sherry), and her beloved grandchildren, Ansley, Avery, Anna Beth, Courtney, Kobyn and Jacob. She also leaves behind numerous sibling-cousins, their children and grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents and by her treasured son, Ricky Houck, to whom she was fervently devoted. Memorials in Angie’s honor may be made to: St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; The American Cancer Society, P O Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123; The Dolly Goodpuppy Society, P O Box 361, Barnesville, GA 30204; or Saint George’s Episcopal Church, 132 North 10th St, Griffin, GA 30223.
