Ann Austin Entrekin passed away at Phoebe Sumter Hospital on December 20 after a short illness. She was born on January 23, 1933 to Lucille Whitten Austin and Carroll Butler Austin. Ann was married to Harry B. Entrekin, local CPA, for 65 years. She attended & graduated from Americus High School, where she was a majorette and drum major and was Miss AHS. She attended and graduated from Shorter College in Rome, Georgia, and after graduating taught at Shorter for 2 years. She then taught for several years at Furlow Grammar School. She assisted her husband at Studstill, Entrekin, and Haugabook for many years until he retired. Ann taught various Sunday School classes for 64 years at First United Methodist Church. She was strong in the United Methodist Women and served as president. She was partially responsible for bringing the Stephen Ministry program to the church and served as a Stephen Minister for years. She served on the staff for the Walk to Emmaus, and still met weekly with her sharing group from her original Walk from 1989. She was also a director for one of the weekend walks. Ann was active in community affairs and was a member of the Junior Welfare League for years and served as President. She was also an avid bridge player. In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Austin, and her granddaughter, Raney Sinyard. Survivors include: her husband, Harry Entrekin; one son, Brent Entrekin; two daughters, Gay Burnette (Johnny), and Karen Sinyard (Roger); five granddaughters, Lindsey Burnette Craven, Chelsea Burnette Collins, Jordan Burnette Scarborough, Joni Burnette Wilkerson, and Callie Sinyard Burleson; and nine great-grandchildren, Caden George, Austin Craven, Harlowe Craven, Kynslee Collins, Keller Collins, Lincoln Collins, Remi Scarborough, Athens Burleson, and Brynleigh Burleson. Visitation will be from 6 pm to 8 pm Thursday, December 26, at the Entrekin residence, and the funeral will be held on Friday at 1:30 pm at First United Methodist Church.
