Barbara Ann Smith Varnum

Mrs. Barbara Ann Smith Varnum, age 76, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2020, at Miona Geriatric Center in Ideal. Funeral services are planned for 2:00 PM on Wednesday, September 9, from the graveside at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Rev. Bud Womack officiating. The staff of Hancock Funeral Home would like to issue a gentle reminder to all attendees that, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, reasonable social distancing must be maintained at all times, and the use of face masks is required. Born March 7, 1944 in Leslie, she was a daughter of the late Marvin Smith and the late Thelma Bishop Smith. Mrs. Varnum was of the Christian faith, and was a homemaker. She was employed for seven years at Manhattan Shirt Factory and enjoyed selling Avon for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Otto Varnum; and by a brother, Tommy Smith. Survivors include two sons: Kenneth Varnum and Charles Varnum (Kelly); two grandchildren: Mya Varnum and Haley Varnum; one brother, Marvin Smith, Jr.; one sister, Betty Barry, all of Americus; and eight nieces and nephews.
