Mrs. Bessie Jewel Mallard, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at Columbus Hospice House in Columbus, GA Funeral services are planned for 2:00 PM on Sunday, September 19, from the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., with Rev. Robert McDaniel officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday at the funeral home between the hours of 1:00 & 2:00 PM, preceding the funeral services. Born April 17, 1934 in Americus, she was a daughter of the late Archie James Green and the late Minnie Jewel Green. Mrs. Mallard was a home maker and was a very devout Christian. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Walter Braxton Mallard, Sr.; and by a brother, Archie James Green, Jr. Survivors include her children: Karen Jewel Rainwater (Steve), Walter Braxton Mallard, Jr. (Laura D. Starling), Lisa Jan Harbuck (Jeff), Denise Faith Tumlin (Russell), and Brian Keith Mallard (Stacey McCarty); grandchildren: Robert Wright, Emily Rainwater, Sara Rainwater, Mary Elizabeth Harbuck, Reba Tumlin McMichen, Rani Tumlin, and Cassie Tumlin; great-grandchildren: Julia Wright, Mackayla McMichen, and Rebekah McMichen; and one brother, George Kenley Green.
