Mrs. Betty M. Bryant, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, at her residence in Cobb, GA. Graveside services are planned for 2:00 PM on Friday, October 16, at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 120 Upper River Road in Americus, with Rev. Hugh DeLoach officiating. The family will receive friends after the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Baptist Church Benevolence Fund, 190 Upper River Road, Americus, GA 31709. Born December 23, 1929 in Jones County, she was a daughter of the late Virgil Mercer and the late Annie W. Mercer. She was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church where she was in past years active in the Friendship Class, Women on Mission Paradise Multi-Focus Group II, and the Sunshine Sunday School Class. She was employed at Manhattan Shirt Company in Americus for 47 years and after retiring, she volunteered part-time at Sumter Regional Auxiliary. She later worked as a Caregiver for various families in this area. She cherished working and helping others. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Bryant; by her brothers: Fred Mercer and David Mercer of Albany; sisters: Annie Ruth Mercer of Gray, Thelma Palmer of Pelham, and Gladys Strange, Inez Barron, and Frances Adams, all of Albany. Survivors include her son, James E. Bryant (Peggy) of LaGrange; her daughter, Donna Bryant of Cobb; a sister, Ann Gardner (Alan) of Putney, a brother, Jessie Mack Mercer of Albany; and several nieces and nephews.
