Betty Jean Worthy

Ms. Betty Jean Worthy, 85, passed away early Easter Sunday morning, March 31, 2024, at Perfect Care in Americus, Georgia. Born September 30, 1938 in Sumter County, Georgia she was the daughter of the late John Franklin Worthy, Sr. and Jean Cordell Worthy. She was a graduate of Americus High School and Georgia Southwestern College. Ms. Betty began her career with Southern Bell in Americus before graduating from high school. During her 36-year career with Southern Bell/AT&T she managed several groups in Operator Services and Personnel Departments in Albany, Newnan, Columbus, and Atlanta and retired from AT&T in 1990. She was an active member of Central Baptist Church. Along with her parents, Ms. Betty is preceded in death by her brother, John Franklin Worthy, Jr. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Dee Howell Worthy; two nephews, John (Angie) Worthy, and Brad (Nancy) Worthy; and two great-nieces and two great-nephews, Katelin Marie Worthy, Michael Ryan Worthy, Cody Austin Worthy and Haley Jean Worthy. The family will receive friends for a visitation on Friday, April 5, from 5:00PM to 7:00PM in the Chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, 427, S. Lee St. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 6, at 11:00AM in the Chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, 427, S. Lee St. A funeral procession to Sunset Memorial Gardens will follow the service for burial. Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church, 190 Upper River Road, Americus, GA.
