Bruce Allen Smith

January 15, 1965 — October 28, 2018

Bruce Allen Smith, 53, of Chelsea, Alabama, died in his sleep at his family home in Americus, Georgia on October 28th, 2018. He was born on Fort Benning, Georgia on January 15, 1965, the third child and second son of Jack and Pauline Smith. He was a graduate of Americus High School and Auburn University and employed by Centro, Incorporated as a Territory Manager.  Bruce was a hardworking member of the Smith family and had many talents which included cooking, woodworking, home repair, gardening, golf, fly fishing, and old car renovations.  He was an ardent Auburn football fan and probably owned every piece of Auburn clothing and paraphernalia ever made. He was the proud dog parent of Polly, Diggy (recently deceased) and Rebel - who also have extensive Auburn wardrobes.  Bruce was a man of great Faith. He led many Bible study groups and was a member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Birmingham.  Bruce’s greatest gift was his selfless heart manifested in the care he provided his parents in their declining years. Because of him, they were able to live out their final days in the home they loved.  He is survived by his sister Donna Wetherell (Tom), brother Wayne (Shelley), sister Debra (Shan), two nieces, three nephews, four great nieces, one great nephew, and numerous lifelong friends. A memorial service to celebrate Bruce's life will be held on Friday, November 30, at 1:00 PM in the chapel at Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Vestavia Hills, AL. The church is located at 2200 Briarwood Way in Birmingham. Bruce woke up every morning to the song “The Promise”. His siblings and friends celebrate his life well-lived.  “ ‘Cause you know I made a promise that I’ve prepared a place  And some day sooner than you think you’ll see me face to face  And you’ll sing with the angels and a countless multitude  This is the promise, this is the promise I’ve made to you.”To sign our online guestbook and express your condolences to the family, please visit www.hancockfuneralhomeinc.comHancock Funeral Home, 427 S.
