Mrs. Carol Lynn Bozeman Griggs passed away on Wednesday evening, May 1, 2019, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany. Lynn was born in Savannah, Georgia on December 5, 1956 to David Eli Bozeman and Sarah Helen Mims. Mrs. Griggs grew up in Springfield, Georgia and had many happy activities at Springfield Baptist Church and shopping on Broughton Street in Savannah. She also enjoyed many family vacations on Jekyll Island. As a young girl, she asked Jesus to be Lord of her life and she lived out her life fully trusting Him. She graduated from Effingham County High School in 1974. She was a member of the Rebelaires chorus in high school. She married the love of her life, celebrating 40 years of marriage to Marvin Griggs on April 21, 1979. She was mother to two loving children to carry her memory: Adam Griggs and Ashley Pierce. She was a devoted and doting grandmother to her precious grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She worked as a dedicated employee of the Webster County School District with a lifelong love of learning and reading that she passed to her children and her grandchildren. Her selfless acts of kindness as a member of the Phoebe Sumter Auxiliary Pink Ladies was felt by the many people whom she met. She could also be seen every Sunday beside her husband in the pews of Preston Baptist Church and serving beside her many friends in the community. She fought cancer and its effects valiantly for 16 years, always with her sweet smile and a kind heart, never complaining and always with her husband fighting by her side. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, David Eli Bozeman and Sarah Helen Bozeman of Plains, Georgia; parents-in-law, James Marvin Griggs, Sr and Eunice Griggs of Plains, Georgia; an uncle, Elliot Anderson of Plains, Georgia; and sister and brother-in-law, Robert and Gail Alston of Plains. Lynn is survived by her husband of 40 years, J. Marvin Griggs, Jr. of Preston. Her son and daughter-in-law, Adam Griggs (Sarita) and grandson Lowin of Richland, Georgia. Her daughter and son-in-law Ashely Griggs Pierce (Jeff) and granddaughters Tessa and Anna of Tallahassee, Florida. Sister and brother-in-law Diane Bozeman Worrell (Roy) of Perry, Georgia. Her nieces Megan Tate (Adam) and children Bryce, Emma and Lincoln of O’Fallon, Illinois and Jessica Worrell and son Austin of Perry, Georgia; An aunt, Carol Anderson of Plains; cousins Susan Anderson, Jill Simmons (Sam) and daughter Lily of Columbus, Georgia; an uncle Dr. and Mrs. George Mims of Kennesaw, Georgia. Sister-in-law Maxine and Leon Beal of Ellerslie, Georgia; niece Nikki McGee and children Miranda, Joel, and Scott of Columbus, Georgia; niece Shonna Shellhouse (Mark) and children Lily and Carter of Leesburg, Georgia; and so many friends as she never met a stranger. The family will be accepting friends and family for visitation at Hancock Funeral Home on Lee St. in Americus, Georgia on Saturday May 4, 2019 from 6-8 p.m. and funeral services will be held on Sunday May 5, 2019 at Preston Baptist Church in Preston, Georgia at 3:00 p.m., with Rev. Chris Hess and Rev. Raymond Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Lebanon Cemetery in Plains, Georgia.
