Mr. Charles J. "Joe" Plant, Jr., age 94, passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center. Funeral services are planned for 1:00 PM on Saturday, December 22, at Lee Street United Methodist Church, with Dr. Dennis Stalvey and Rev. James Earl Duke, Jr. officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.The family will receive friends on Friday, December 21, between the hours of 4:00 and 6:00 PM at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St.Born April 11, 1924 in Columbus, GA, he was a son of the late Charles J. Plant and the late Robbie Stewart Plant. Mr. Plant was a member of Lee Street United Methodist Church, and was a retired from Ingalls Ship Building Co. in Pascagoula, MS as a mechanical facility engineer, having worked in textiles, oil production and refining, ship building, and aerospace engineering. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he achieved the rank of First Lieutenant, having served as an officer during World War II, and as an active officer during the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 73 years, Elsie D. Plant; and by his sister, Imogene Duke. Survivors include three brothers: J.L. Tanner (Evelyn) of Jacksonville, FL, Al Tanner (Helen) of Jacksonville, FL, and Arthur S. Tanner (Jolene) of Albany; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution in Joe's name to Lee Street United Methodist Church, 1102 S.
